Prior to having a family David was a professional singer performing around the nightclubs in Auckland and in Duo as one of Brinwood and Owen who won a series of NZ Opportunity knocks.

He has appeared as a guest performer from time to time since then and participates at 2010 Franklin Elvis in the Park as an avid Elvis fan and accomplished singer.
